The working group wants to be a platform for European policy makers to exchange policy, experience and knowledge in soil issues in line with developing European Soil Policy.
The scope is based on the value of soil and its services for societal goals (Sustainable Development Goals). The mind-set is system based: ‘from a physicochemical mind-set towards a soil ecosystem and ecosystem services approach’.
Future societal challenges, the issues in the Soil Thematic Strategy, and the soil functions and soil services as addressed by the Biodiversity Strategy (MAES) are part of the conceptual framework.
COMMON FORUM in its approach and philosophy being an informal network for policy makers has proven to be a success formula. Following this approach is also the intention of WG SaR.
